A Key Bank customer got in a gunfight with a suspected robber Monday in Colerain Township, police said.

Colerain officers responded to the bank on Springdale Road just after 11 a.m.

Bank employees told police a man wearing dark clothing and black hat entered the bank demanding money.

“Bank employees complied, but shots were fired inside the bank,” police said in a news release. “A gunfire exchange between the suspect and a patron, whom legally was carrying a firearm, took place.”

Police have not said who fired first.

Sgt. James Love, public information officer, said officers are searching for the suspect and another man who fled with the suspect on foot from the bank.

Police said it is unknown if the suspect was struck. No customers or employees in the bank were injured.

A bullet shattered one of the windows of the bank.

Love said police have alerted area hospitals to be on the look out for anyone coming in with gunshot wounds.

The Colerain Police Department is investigating the incident. The FBI is also on the scene.
