BB&T’s systems have “substantially recovered” since an equipment malfunction left the bank’s customers locked out of online banking on payday.
Online and mobile banking platforms have been restored, as well as the company’s automated Phone24 service and ATMs, according to a statement posted to Twitter on Saturday morning.
The systems are still “processing updates,” though, and account information may only reflect transactions made through Thursday night, the statement said. Officials expect account information to be fully updated at some point Saturday.
The issues began Thursday night after a malfunction in one of the company’s data centers. By midday Friday, the bank reported it had identified the problem and was racing to resolve it.
Messages on Facebook and on the bank’s Twitter account said that customers could not use online banking, the mobile banking app and ATMs — but that the outage was not caused by a cybersecurity breach.
The statement released Saturday added that if there were any fees incurred as a result of this outage, the bank will waive or reimburse them for customers.
“We’re here to assist w/any other challenges you’ve experienced,” it said. “… Again, we are deeply sorry for this inconvenience this event has caused.”
The latest information will be posted on bbt.com.
