Bearded bank robber identified as female former LAPD officer

Police in California have identified a bearded suspect in a bank robbery as a female former LAPD officer.

Police say Jennifer Rae McClary, 36, disguised herself as a man when she handed a teller a note and demanded money at a bank in Danville, east of San Francisco.

Danville police used surveillance video to identify and arrest the woman on Wednesday, a few hours after the robbery.

Local news report that McClary served in the Los Angeles Police Department from 2006 to 2008. She then worked as a Placentia police officer, near Long Beach, until 2010.

Sgt Bryce Angel, of Placentia PD, said McClary was fired for “failing to meet probationary standards,” CBS Los Angeles reported.

“I was surprised anytime a police officer is arrested for a crime like that. It is obviously a far departure from where they started,” he said.

“I think the person was in a very desperate state of mind and was going for a quick payday and committed a federal offence.”
