Bomb squad called to bank for ‘smoking’ package

Bomb squad detectives were called to a bank in Melbourne’s outer south-east on Saturday after a man threw a ‘smoking’ package at the shopfront window about 6.15pm.

A witness outside the National Australia Bank in Main Street, Pakenham, raised the alarm.

The bomb squad used a bomb disposal robot to safely dispose of what it describes as an “unknown package”.

Police are now looking for a car that sped away from the scene. It is described as a blue or green Mazda.

Anyone with information about the attempted crime should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
