Chairman’s wife paints the bank red | Business

As Metro Bank opens more and more branches around the country, Shirley Hill is doing very well.

In 2016, Hill’s InterArch, a New Jersey architecture, design and branding services business, was paid £3.1m by Metro.

Last year, according to the dog-friendly challenger bank’s accounts published last week, InterArch was paid £4.6m, thanks to Metro’s expansion.

These sorts of numbers are not usually disclosed in company accounts, but Shirley is no ordinary Mrs Hill; she has been married to Vernon for more than 40 years. And Vernon, 72, is founder and chairman of Metro Bank.

So wherever customer champion Vernon goes, Shirley, 73 — and often their Yorkshire terrier Sir Duffield II — goes, too.
