Chloe Grace Moretz Apologizes for Ad Accused of Body Shaming

A billboard for her upcoming animated film ‘Red Shoes & the 7 Dwarfs’ features a Snow White who is “no longer beautiful.”

Chloe Grace Moretz is apologizing after promotional material released for her upcoming animated film was accused of body shaming women.

The 20-year-old actress says she has talked to producers for the film Red Shoes & the 7 Dwarfs about the marketing choices, including a billboard that appeared last week at the Cannes Film Festival.

The ad depicted a tall, thin woman in red heels next to a shorter, heavier version of herself holding her heels. The tagline promoted a Snow White who was no longer beautiful.

Social media users criticized the ad on Wednesday, prompting Moretz to apologize and say she stands behind the film’s script, which she says tells a powerful message to young women.

The film’s company, South Korea-based Locus Creative Studios, did not immediately return an email seeking comment.
