Jerry West leaving Golden State for Clippers: Report

Fresh off the team’s second NBA title in two seasons, Golden State special consultant and former NBA star Jerry West is leaving the Warriors to try and have the same effect on the Los Angeles Clippers.

Sports Illustrated’s Jack McCallum reported the 79-year-old West, who has been with the Warriors for six seasons, made the decision during the past two weeks.

“These were six of my happiest years,” West told Wednesday night. “To be around a team like this, with these kind of guys … well, I’ve been around a long time, and I can tell you it’s a rare experience.”

The former Los Angeles Laker star lost out to another former Laker, Magic Johnson, to run that franchise, which sets up a cross-town rivalry between the Laker icons. He was not in a decision-making position with the Warriors but his voice carried weight with the franchise.
