Jersey Shore blaze rips through bayfront homes, smoke visible for miles

WILDWOOD CREST — Firefighters are battling a house blaze Sunday afternoon that created a thick black plume of smoke visible for miles in surrounding Jersey Shore beach towns.

Photos and videos posted on social media show the fire started in a three-story bayfront home on the 7100 block of Park Boulevard in Wildwood Crest. The Press of Atlantic City reported the blaze spread to a second house and at least one deck has collapsed.

The fire has drawn departments from several surrounding towns to assist.

Wildwood Crest Police and Wildwood Crest Volunteer Fire Departments did not immediately respond to inquiries.

But photographs and accounts on twitter depicted flames shooting from the back of a three-story house, as bystanders looked on from sidewalks nearby and from beaches in the distance.
