The Barclays branch on Cullompton High Street is set to close, it has been announced.
The bank said the decision has been made due to almost half of its customers in the town using alternative branches. The decision means that Lloyds will be left as the only bank in the town.
A spokesman for Barclays said that it does not take the decision to close any branch lightly and that it will be engaging with the local community to discuss other ways to bank locally ahead of the branch closing on September 1.
Andrea Edge, acting community banking director for Barclays Devon and Cornwall, said: “The way customers undertake their banking is changing as people increasingly use online, telephone and mobile devices.

“At Barclays Cullompton branch, customer usage has continued to decline and nearly half of our customers now regularly use alternative branches, which is why we have taken the difficult decision to close it.
“We hope that the availability of our nearest Barclays branch at 24 Fore Street, Tiverton, which is located just over six miles away, and access to services at the local Post Offices located at 61A Fore Street, Cullompton, along with our range of digital channels will help to ease the transition for our customers.”
Barclays will be hosting ‘tea and teach’ sessions at Cullompton branch for customers wishing to explore digital banking.
