Mom loses primary custody after refusing to vaccinate son

A Michigan mom lost primary custody of her 9-year-old son after she refused to vaccinate him.

Rebecca Bredow, 40, served five days in Oakland County Jail for going against a judge’s order to inoculate her son, the Detroit Free Press reported.

One day after she was released, Oakland County Circuit Judge Karen McDonald ruled that she will share joint custody with her ex-husband, James Horne.

For the last year, Bredow has fought her ex-husband in court over the vaccinations, claiming that they go against her religious beliefs.

Horne’s lawyer, however, argued that her invoking religion in the legal battle was a “convenient lie.”

Bredow was found in contempt of court after she agreed to get the boy his shots in October 2016 but never followed through.

Her lawyer said Tuesday that she was “devastated” to learn her son received his vaccinations while she was in the slammer.

“It was the worst five days of my life, except for the fact that I just found out that he was vaccinated and I’m not going to get him back today,” Bredow said. “It’s been a rough few days to say the least.”
