Nifty Bank hits record high after RBI keeps repo rate unchanged

NEW DELHI: The NSE Nifty Bank hit record high at 23,591, up 0.75 per cent, after the Reserve Bank of India announced an unchanged repo and reserve repo rate.

Shares of Punjab National Bank (up 1.67 per cent), ICICI Bank (up 1.27 per cent), Bank of Baroda (up 0.89 per cent), State Bank of India (up 0.87 per cent) and Federal Bank Ltd. (up 0.71 per cent) were among top gainers.

While YES Bank Ltd. (down 1.63), HDFC Bank Ltd. (down 0.15), IDFC Bank Ltd. (down 0.08), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (down 0.11) and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (down 0.17) were among top losers in the index at around the same time.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was up 19.05 points at 9,656.2.

Among the 51 stocks in Nifty index, 35 were trading in green, while 16 were in red.

Shares of Vedanta Ltd, ICICI Bank, ITC, DLF, SBI were among most traded securities on the National Stock Exchange on Wednesday.

BSE Sensex was up 62.97 points at 31253.53 .

Traders were seen piling up positions in personal care, electronics, fertilisers, infrastructure, tobacco sectors. However, selling was visible in aquaculture, glass, packaging, rubber, transport sectors.
