Police are looking for a suspect who reportedly snatched an envelope full of money from a bank customer in downtown Colorado Springs on Saturday morning.

A citizen reported the robbery, which happened just before 9:30 a.m. at a Chase Bank in the 400 block of North Tejon Street, said Lt. Mary Rosenoff of Colorado Springs police.

The customer was trying to make a deposit when a stranger grabbed the envelope and ran from the bank, according to a written report from police.

Officers searched Monument Valley Park and the surrounding area but couldn’t find the suspect.

“The victim was not physically harmed and there is no ongoing danger to the public,” police said in the report.

Late Saturday morning, several police vehicles were parked outside of the bank. Signs posted at the bank’s public entrances said the branch was temporarily closed “due to an emergency.”

“We are making every effort to reopen as soon as possible,” the signs stated.
