Police search for suspect in Mendota Heights homicide
MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. – Mendota Heights police say a woman was found dead in an office building in the area where authorities were searching for an armed suspect on Saturday.
Police Chief Kelly McCarthy says the woman, who has not been identified, was found in the Mendota Heights Business Center around 2 p.m. They believe she was killed by a suspect police had been looking for at White Pine Senior Living, which is adjacent to the business center.
On Saturday evening, police released a photo of a man wanted in connection with the homicide. 44-year-old Lucifer Nguyen is 5 feet 5 inches tall and weights approximately 150 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black t-shirt. Police say Nguyen is believed to be armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office at 651-322-2323.
McCarthy says the incident started with a call of a robbery near Delaware Avenue and Highway 110. The suspect, an Asian man with a handgun, drove away. McCarthy says the suspect was driving up South Plaza Drive, but turned around when he saw police, running the car into a swamp behind White Pine Senior Living.
The suspect then led police on a foot chase and ran into the assisted living facility, according to police. Officers lost sight of him but did not see him go out the other door.
Police evacuated the senior living facility, along with area golf courses, and set up a perimeter around White Pine while they searched the building. Then at about 2:30 p.m., police informed media that a deceased female had been located in the adjacent office building.
Chief McCarthy says she believes the suspect must have already been gone when they set up a perimeter.
Police are asking nearby residents to avoid the area, stay indoors and lock their doors.
The BCA is assisting with the homicide investigation.
