A bungling bank robber was caught after the cashier he threatened with a gun fainted with his passport still in her hand.

The botched robbery was caught on CCTV security cameras at a bank in the Russian capital Moscow.

The footage begins with the 22-year-old man, wearing a yellow Adidas top, handing the woman his passport – which the bank uses to verify identities – with a note inside.

He showed the middle-aged blonde woman his handgun in his right hand as she reads his note which said: ‘Give me the money or I’ll shoot everybody.’

But the robber’s fiendish plan backfired when the bank worker fainted in shock and slumped back in her chair.

Confused and not knowing what to do next, he turned tail and ran out of the bank, leaving his passport with the collapsed cashier.

Despite having all of the man’s personal details, it took police two months to catch up with him, for unreported reasons.

Police released the CCTV footage after finally arresting the man, whose name has not been disclosed. He faces up to eight years in prison if convicted of armed robbery.

The man, a salesman for an online store, reportedly told detectives that he got the idea for the robbery from a movie though he did not say which one.

He said he wrote the threatening note at work and then bought a fake gun on his way to the bank.

The CCTV footage is proving popular viewing online. Netizen ‘Yarik’ commented: ‘What an idiot! He not only showed his face to CCTV but left his passport at the scene!’
