Samuel L. Jackson is set to reprise his role as Nick Fury in the upcoming Captain Marvel movie.
The actor first appeared as Avengers architect Fury in 2008 film Iron Man, with the character making appearance in several more Marvel Comics flicks, including Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Rumours began to pop up on fan websites earlier this week (beg03Jul17) claiming that Fury would appear in Captain Marvel, with Deadline.com now reporting that he will definitely appear in the film, though Marvel representatives have yet to confirm his inclusion.
Plans for Captain Marvel were first announced in early 2016, with Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck set to direct, and Brie Larson taking the central role of Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers.
Further details about the plot have been kept under wraps, but it will be the first female-led superhero project under Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe. The screenplay is being worked on by Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman.
Danvers first appeared in a Marvel comic in 1968, with the pilot-turned-super-powered human labelled “Marvel’s biggest female hero”.
Meanwhile, Jackson is scheduled to return in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War and its sequel, in accordance with a nine-film commitment to the character he signed with the studio.
He will also be appearing as Elijah Price in M. Night Shyamalan’s Glass, in Peter Segal’s forthcoming sci-fi film Inversion and voice the character of Frozone in The Incredibles 2.
The 68-year-old will next be seen on screen in The Hitman’s Bodyguard opposite Ryan Reynolds and Salma Hayek, with the film hitting cinemas from next month.
Captain Marvel is slated to begin shooting next January, and hit theatres in March 2019.
