San Pablo multiple bank robbery suspect arrested

SAN PABLO — Within hours after police released surveillance images of a man wanted for two bank holdups, the suspect was arrested Thursday evening after authorities say he tried to rob another business.

Police said Avaun Price, 30, of San Pablo, was arrested about 5:16 p.m. Thursday on suspicion of robbing  the Money Mart, a personal loan and check cashing business at 14473 San Pablo Ave.

Police said he handed a note to an employee demanding money and claimed to have a weapon.

Police Commander Brian Bubar said an alert employee, who had not seen any of the surveillance images,  was able to call police while Price was still inside and officers who were in the area quickly responded.

When Price saw officers pulling up outside he left the business and was arrested, police said.

Bubar said no  weapon was found and no money was taken.

Price was already wanted as a suspect in two bank robberies. In an effort to identify him, police earlier Thursday had released to the media images of the suspect in those robberies.

One happened June 20 at the Citibank branch, 201 San Pablo Towne Center. The other happened  June 13 at the Chase Bank, 14330 San Pablo Ave.
