“For the past six months, people have been talking a lot about alleged activities involving Donald Trump at the Ritz-Carlton presidential suite in Moscow, and I’ve been thinking, ‘Why didn’t somebody just go and look in the room?'” Colbert explains.
The Late Show host Stephen Colbert continued “Russia Week” — which follows his recent trip to Russia for the show — with a look inside the Ritz-Carlton’s infamous presidential suite in Moscow, which has hosted world figures such as President Donald Trump and Barack Obama.
“For the past six months, people have been talking a lot about alleged activities involving Donald Trump at the Ritz-Carlton presidential suite in Moscow, and I’ve been thinking, ‘Why didn’t somebody just go and look in the room?'” Colbert explains in the new video. So, that’s what he did.
The suite gained particular notoriety for being the spot referred to in the now-infamous Russia dossier released by BuzzFeed in January. The document outlined unverified claims that Trump was present with prostitutes at the hotel while certain sexual activities took place.
Colbert, who rented the room out for the purpose of his Cribs-style video, walks viewers through the suite, pointing out the highlights along the way. Little oddities include a grand piano, a crystal vase with nude images on it “depicting, I believe, the allegations in the dossier,” and an old clock with one hand on it “because it’s so old that minutes weren’t invented yet.”
The late-night host also points out the view of the Kremlin through the suite’s window, and notes that a miniature telescope is left in the room “in case you want to return the favor.” He jokes, “Come on Vlad, put on a shirt,” referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Ending the tour, Colbert points out the personal sauna in the bathroom. “Hundreds of the world’s most powerful men have come in here to sweat their balls off,” he explains. “Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to make that 101.”
“Russia Week” will continue throughout the week, with a conversation with Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov set to air in the next few days.
