Make way, Alicia Keys — this girl is on fire.
Nine-year-old Angelica Hale wowed the America’s Got Talent judges with a jaw-dropping performance of Alicia Keys’ Girl on Fire Tuesday.
Hale even landed the golden buzzer from guest judge Chris Hardwick.
“You are unbelievable,” he told her.
The song had particular meaning for Hale because she knows what it’s like to fight back in the face of challenges. At four years old, a bacterial infection severely damaged her kidneys and left her fighting to survive on life support. She later received a kidney from her mother, according to a video on her website.
Now Hale is raising her voice for a purpose. She performs across the country to raise money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, where she stayed as she recovered from the infection.
“I wanted to become like [popular singers], but instead of doing it for something else, I did it for raising money for the hospitals,” Hale said in the video. “I won’t forget my experience in my hospital because that is kind of like a centerpiece in my life.”
