Real Madrid president Florentino Perez says coach Zinedine Zidane will decide on the future of James Rodriguez, while adding that he does not know where Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea will be playing next season.

James has been linked with a move away from Madrid, having struggled to pin down a regular starting spot at the club this season.

Speculation that the Colombia international will depart the Santiago Bernabeu this summer only intensified after he was left out of the squad for Saturday’s 4-1 Champions League final victory over Juventus, but Perez says his future still has to be decided on by Zidane.

“We’re going to speak with Zidane, who’s the conductor of this orchestra. If it were up to me, everyone would stay,” he told Antena 3.

“James is an incredible player, but when you have so many… I’d have everyone stay. We’ll speak with the coach; he is the person who will decide the future.”

Perez also spoke about the future of long-time Madrid target target De Gea.

Man United have David De Gea to thank for securing a point.
David De Gea has long been linked with a move to Real Madrid.

The United keeper has been linked with a summer move to Madrid, with the European champions reportedly having a £60 million bid knocked back, though Perez says he does not know where he will be lining up at next season.

“De Gea is a great goalkeeper who plays for United,” he told Atresmedia. “I don’t know where he will play next season because I’m not a fortune teller.”

Perez added that Zidane will always be welcome at Madrid after winning his second Champions League in just 17 months in charge of the club.

Former Madrid player Zidane said after the victory over Juventus that he wants to stay on at Madrid, having previously been coy about his future this season.

“He can spend his life at Madrid,” Perez told Cadena SER, adding to Antena 3: “He’s a person that all us Madridistas have to thank. He elevated our level of talent [as a player] in 2001 and put on a show.

“He’s done this in 17 months, and in 17 months you can’t do everything. He said that [about his future] to free himself of the pressure. He said that he hadn’t won anything, but now he has won everything.”
